He said it would loosen up in time. I need your opinion should I put it in this way or not???

Sounds like he over heated the rod, or bent, tweeked the small end of rod..

The piston shouldn't flop back and forth on rod, but it shouldnt be real tight eaither..

Use this for a test.. Hold rod/piston straight up in air, so piston is up top.. Tilt the rod to the side.. The piston should slowly move over to the side your tilting rod.

If it don't.. It's too tight.. Take it back to him.

Shops uses 2 ways of putting pistons on rods.. Some shops will stick the rod small end over a flame heater.. Heat up the rod, lube wrist pin, and rod.. Stick piston/pin on rod real quick before rod cools.

Other way is to use a hyd. shop press, and press the pin through rod.

Both ways has there pros and cons.. Myself I like the heat method better though. The press can tweek parts, shave metal off, etc when putting a press interface joint like wrist pin/rod together.

If heat was used.. Look at the small end of rod.. If it's discolored, blued, etc then that shows signs of over heating.

Well the make of vehicle would help here but the piston should move freely.

No ! No ! No ! The machine shop goofed! the piston should
move freely. I hope they did'nt "tweak" your piston.
Take it back and demand a redo or relacement

Not it's 2 tight the wrist pin is binding it will cause issues. Best to have it taken apart an look an check it out if it's the pin or bushing that's 2 tight.He might of scored the bushing when installing it???
