It was the Militia units that fought at Kokoda along with a small contingent of local Reservists. The militia were conscripts that could not fight outside of 'Australian Territory', and at that time, both New Guinea and Papua were trust territories of Australia.

The Australian Prime Minister, Curtin, fought with Churchill and was able to have the AIF in North Africa returned to Australia and they then went to New Guinea and Papua to bolster the militia troops and to then relieve them.

Yes, I feel that Menzies should have been treated as a War Criminal, or at least a person who should have been charged with treason for supporting both the Nazi Germans in the 1930's and for sending several ship loads of 'pig iron' to the Japanese.

Menzies also took Australia into Korea, suppressing a report from two Australian servicemen, a Naval Lt. Commander and a Army Major (along with a British Diplomat) who were part of a UN inspection team on the border. The three of them visited military bases on both side of the border and their report, filed a day before the invasion, stated that a large troop movement and build-up was taking place in the south while the troops in the North were static.

Menzies also took Australia into the Second Indochina War (Vietnam War) in violation of the 1954 Geneva Agreements, citing the ANZUS and SEATO treaties as a reason, and his hatred for anything Communist or 'Nationalist'.

The same reason liberals are not hanged in the United States for the treason they are now committing when they give aid and comfort to our enemies with their statements. Australia and the USA allow too much treachery.
