William - it's just a hunch amigo... my thought process has remained immature.

Cool question.

I think that the collective thought process is splitting in two. There are people who utilize technology in such a way that they can accomplish more. They expand their vision and think of new ways to solve problems, thanks to a ridiculous surge of new technologies available.

On the other hand, there are people who allow technology to do the work for them. They don't make connections between different types of tech in complex ways that lateral thinkers do.

But what's the baseline for the human thought process? Do you mean to ask if we are changing the emotion/reason balance in making decisions?

I also think it's true, however, that as tech improves, bioethics becomes more of an issue. There is already plenty of opposition regarding nanotechnology and its potential use in replacing biological components. As mass media continues to report on such advances, the vast undereducated public forms strong opinions that probably taint their ability to rationalize further accomplishments.

I believe that humans have changed their thought processes many times over the centuries but I do not know whether we are heading in the right direction or not at times.

actually it is and can change if the impact of warfare on the environment can be examined and if it is accepted by humanity as detrimental as well as wrong the humanity might grow up. it is time for humanity to grow up and accept it can no longer continue warfare.

People seem to be getting less (rather than more) rational and logical, and more (rather than less) superstitious and prone to believe in obvious falsehoods - but this may be a false impression on my part. I certainly hope so!
