I have an interview for a nanny position tomorrow, I was wondering if I should tell her that we are expecting? I am about 8 weeks along. I just don't want to be turned down from the job becuase I am pregnant, since I am only expecting to take a couple weeks off for whent e baby is born before returning back to work. How should I bring this up and when? Thanks!

The children are 4 and 6 although, there are many marvoulous parents out their who have babies everyday and care for their children perfectly fine when they are pregnant. So I am not sure what that has to do with anything.

I haven't had any nausea or ms yet.

Is this your first baby? I'm only asking because if you get really bad morning sickness, fatigue and headaches, you're not going to be able to do well as a nanny. Just kind of warning you in advance - you might have to take off a LOT more time than you think.

But to answer your question - YES, tell them you are expecting. They will know in a month or two anyway when you show and you don't want to be in the uncomfortable position of having obviously kept something important from her.

You could say "I just wanted to let you know I am expecting a baby but don't forsee this being a problem in the next 9 months."

I would wait before telling them. For one, even though it's illegal to deny a person a job for being pregnant, they could just cite another reason for not giving you the job. Also, and this sounds morbid, but you should wait until you're through your first trimester before telling them anyway because not all pregnancies come to full term. If I were you, I'd wait until I got the job and was far enough into the pregnancy that I started to show. That will give them plenty of time to find someone to nanny while you're on maternity leave. Good luck!

I would definitely tell them. I am a nanny of three boys (oldest is 8 with Down syndrome, middle is 6, and the youngest is 4 with Autism). Granted, not all families have this situation, but if you are working with toddlers or infants, you need to tell them. If you have to pick the children up a lot, it is important that they know you are expecting.

I am 28 weeks right now, and it is really hard! My back is killing me, my feet swell everyday, and I am exhausted when I go home.

Chances are, you won't have time to sit down, so the swelling of the feet will be worse.

I would tell them so you either:

a) will not be expected to lift as much, and

b) you will be given more time to sit down.

I am not going to be these little guys nanny after next weekend, because I start my student teaching internship and will not be able to work. From one nanny to another, if it gets to hard, PLEASE find another line of work or ask for some restrictions on your activities in their home.

I'm sure they will find out sooner or later. Remember that being pregnant especially so early on you are and are going to be limited to what you can for them as a nanny. I take care of children myself and was lucky that my employer kept me on considering taking care of children is a demanding and tiring job. Take extra care of yourself and maybe develop a trusting relationship and tell them then see what happens. They might be okay with it knowing that you plan on returning so quickly.

It is very important that you tell the boss tomorrow! - Let her know whats going on. It is only fair to her, atleast if she does hire you she could start taking time of from her job or getting somebody to replace you when important doctor visits and things of that nature come up. I am pretty sure that they are going to be understanding. But, to not tell her would be like cheating her out on some very important information. And, she may even lose loyalty in you!

I would not bring it up i would keep it to myself till i was future along. as the other person said if you get morning sickness that job won't last. ALSO if your thinking of being nanny to kids under 3 you are not going to be able to lift change bath them. ms often don't start till 8-10 weeks can last till 16 or more

I wouldn't tell anybody until you are at least three months along. Unfortunately, you're at a "high risk" time right now. You shouldn't be discriminated against if you were pregnant, but chances are you wouldn't get the position if they knew.

As someone who was pregnant, I'm sure they'd understand why you wouldn't have told them about it right away. Ultimately though, it's your call.

many women do care for younger kids while pregnant but IT IS NOT ADVISED BY DOCTORS to lift and pull while pregnant it can cause problems. That's why watching young kids would not be advised. I baby sat a 5 year old when pregnant he got mad hit me in my belly i was 26 weeks pregnant i instantly got cramps.

Absolutely tell them. I don't see how it would affect your getting the job. They want someone who likes kids. And being up front and honest about it helps them know you will be upfront and honest about their children. Plus they will need to know in advance that you will need time off for maternity.
