A large portion of the Republican base are members of the "Christian right" who believe that homosexuality=immorality. Any steps that are seen by that group as endorsing homosexuality are likely to hurt the candidate who pushes it. It's a simple political reality. Since you don't win elections without the base, it's too politically risky for the GOP to attend those events or sponsor them. Since there are fewer Christian conservatives on the left, it's not a big political liablity for Dems to show up at those events.

Are there gay Republicans? Sure there are..they're called Log Cabin Republicans. They hope to push the GOP to talk about "gay issues" more.

I'm not a conservative and don't claim to be a liberal but I find it insulting that there has to be a separate forum for gays. I don't have anything against gays but I don't think that every special interest group should have a forum. The reality is that there are gays in this world and they are part of society as a whole. I just don't think that they should be treated as they are an important group.

Why?

Why don't they also have an open-heterosexual debate, an open-white debate, an open-black debate, an open-latino debate, and so on and so forth?

Because they don't pander to 1 particular group in particular. My candidate of choice, Ron Paul, actually happens to believe that we are all equal, Black, white, gay, not gay.

Now, do you understand what the meaning of equality is? With that in mind, do you really think it is equal, to have an open-gay forum debate?

Furthermore, what is there to debate about? Everyone in this country should be guaranteed the right to freedom, liberty, and happiness. You should be more supportive of people who believe in the constitution, like Ron Paul, more than anything.

The problem is, you are looking for people to pander to gay people. You SHOULD be looking for people that will fight for every one of us, doesn't matter who it is or what we are.

OPEN YOUR EYES. Message me if you have a question, believe me, I guarantee you I can make you believe.

There are far more important issues to work on rather than waste time on what has become another special interest group. Everyone has faced the reality that we have gays in the country. They don't need to be pandered to. To answer the question...hopefully never.

I hope never . The debates should be about the issues that concern all of us. What happens when other groups demand an open forum (short people, tall people, fat people, thin people) will the Democrats do the same for them?

Well, what percentage of gays do you suppose are Republicans? And if you had a gay debate with the Republican candidates, how many Republican votes would the "successful" candidate lose by pandering to the gay vote? Now THAT's reality.

The debate wasn't sponsored by the Democrats. The Republicans were invited as well, but they chose not to attend. Imagine that lol. They are the very models of tolerance aren't they?

What reality are you speaking about? Republicans know there are homosexuals in this country..However, sexual preference is a social issue, and to a Conservative, social issues are to be handled by the state not by the federal govt.

The Republican candidates were invited to this one and everyone of them said no.

Probably right. Why should Gay's get different treatment? Libs are all for fairness and equality, but then they treat everyone different, hmmmmm
