I know many of you reading this don't know me, don't know what I'm like, what I've been through, and you may not even see why I am asking this question, and you may not even have an answer to it. You may ridicule me, you may say just let things happen, but I don't believe you just let things happen, you have to take steps towards making those things happen. So here it is, I don't know what I want to do in life, what I like to do, where I should go, what kind of job would I be good at, and how I could make a difference somewhere. I don't know if I should go back to school this year, becasue I can't answer the question of why I'm going to school, other than because I know if I go to school I can get a good job, but what is it, and will it make me feel like i've fulfilled something in my life, will I feel complete. I think perhaps maybe I should travel the world, and get a different perspective of it from other countries around the world. I'm lost, where is my life headed. I'm 20.

You are correct in asserting that in order for one to desire change, one must make change happen. However, the world around you will continue to move on whether you decide to continue on or remain stagnant. By not taking action now, you will inevitably miss out on quite a few opportunities that would potentially benefit you in the long run. I cannot give you advice on what you should do with your life, but I'm merely stating the consequences of action vs. inaction.

Okay, how many years of schooling do you have left to finish before obtaining a degree of some sort? You have to weigh that against just chucking it all and going off on a journey at this point. At 20, I am guessing you are either done with a two year college, or are in the middle of your 4 year college. See if you can join the Peace Corps. You will be able to see the world and other cultures and get a different view of things. If nothing else it may clear your head. by the way, most people never find their calling in life, they get a job they can tolerate that pays the bills and they live their real life outside the job with their hobbies, which are their real passions in life. Very few are fortunate enough to get a job they love or make money with their hobby, although it does happen. My husband is a professional musician, and I am an antiques dealer. Neither one of us makes a ton of money but we are happy doing what we do. hope this helps and best of luck.

it's very hard, there are pros and cons of every path.
if i were you i would take a few days and observe myself carefully. What interests you? What websites or channels or people or subjects do you notice or seek out? What makes you feel alive and excited inside? Is it school subjects, a certain type of job, or what. Maybe travel is your real interest. But the answer lies in quiet introspectin to detect your real desires underneath what everyone else might expect of you. in other words, meditate, and you will automatically do what is right for you. you can't just let things happen or you will be 90 still waiting for something to happen. just make something happen and then decide if you like it. if you do then you can make more of that happen. if not, go make something else happen. you can change your direction 150 times in your future life. just start out going somewhere and make a U-turn later if you learn you need to. but without going down a road, any road, you will not learn.
you learn nothing standing at the crossroads trying to make a decision.

Why not find a career counsellor - or an online career quiz and you may be surprised with what type of job suits you! Then maybe try some work experience with a similar company and see what you think. I'm 27 and still have no idea, but I do have a job I like - so I'm lucky I guess.

Nobody knows what you want to do except for you. However, in answer to your question, forget exploring the world. Go explore space. Much more awesome.

By the way, don't ask life advice from Yahoo! Answers. Most people are just either retarded or, like me, jerks.

Find what you love and do it. Go forward.
