I got a couple of paperback novels from the library and all of them have less than 3 stars on amazon. I'm kind of pissed cause I can only go to this library once a month cause its 45 minutes away. gr. They sounded good! But I guess the paragraph on the back can sell a bad novel...

well the stars on amazon are from the readers, just like you. Not from critics.

and I dunno...usually the majority of these are pretty dead on for what I read. I say, well I'll see for myself, and then go back and say...I should have listened to you. lol.

Well, sometimes going with a whim is good. Other times, it's bad.

Try reading the books; maybe they are good and were just harshly rated.

The critics are not always right!
You have a mind of your own and you should use it to discover what you like, instead of letting some critic tell you what you like.
If a critic gives a bad rating to a book you liked, would you stop liking it?
Many very good books, movies, etc get bad reviews from critics.

In my opinion, you should never listen to what other people think on something...they can be a guideline, but should never be the sole guide on whether you buy something or not...everyone has different tastes. That is why I never listen to movie critics, they are just a bunch of pompous....you know what I mean. Try reading the books, you may like it...and what do ya have to lose?

Long, long ago, before they stopped making decent movies and while I still went to them, I knew which would be the best. The ones that critics said were terrible. :)

Critics and other readers do not always have similar tastes to yours.

Out of curiosity, what books are they?

I prefer to make my own judgements on books, movies, etcf. rather than having a critic think for me.
