Normally I find it really cheesy - even with a good voice.
I had a boyfriend in HS that had an EXCELLENT voice - and he would sing and really all it did was make me feel uncomfortable.
HOWEVER if you are going to sing to her, then it should be a big thing. I often think the reason it was cheesy when he did it was because he and I were alone.
There is something hot about a guy making a fool of himself for love though - like getting on a table and being obnoxious about it.

as long as it doesn't hurt the ears, go for it.
and also if you two are on good terms, a guy that sings to a girl who hates his guts (at that point in time) is the most horrible singer in the world.
