You probably can't... Personally I think that anyone that makes fun of another person's attributes has a self image problem himself. Sometimes tho the "making fun of" is part of a "right of passage" to belonging to a group (fellow workers etc) depending on how you handle the "kidding" you may or may not be allowed into the clique. I actually like accents, they are distinctive and interesting and becoming increasingly rare. The total homogenizing of culture makes it less interesting... like a bland stew it has no interesting flavor to make it unique. Here in the US there used to be many regional accents... like the Southern, the several in NJ and New York City, the Cajun and New Orleans, Mid Western, Boston.. among others... they are slowly disappearing due to TV and other mass media... it is sad to see them disappearing..be proud of your accent

o you cant. i live in like a preppy area which i sometimes hate because im not really like that. well anyways i was raised in an area close to philly pa and it wasnt that rich or anything and when i moved everybody at my school made fun of how i talk because when i say things like dancing i dont say the ing i would just say dancin so i got and get made fun of for that. So everybody was always like oh its a philly thing its a philly thing! and i just told them to shut up! also i have a friend who is english born and raised then who moved over to the US who gets made fun of because of her accent. She just tells everyone that their jealous and wish that they could have an awesome accent! so just go postive with it and tell everybody that there jealous and are you a guy? because if you are say that girls are attracted to accents and all your guys friends will be completly jealous because seriously its true girls are! so good luck and dont call your accent strange call it unique!

There are few people that are apparently insecure in themselves so make fun of anything different. Personally, I like accents of all kinds. My hearing isnt the best and some accents make it hard for me to understand what they are saying but it does make me listen closer.

Both languages are distinct. Some people will be immature. You can always make fun of the fact that we Americans don't have an accent.

Hey, dont worry, im half Irish and half British, dont take them seriously. Dont worry about it. When they make fun of you just ignore them, and they will get bored.

Don't worry about it. Stay away from those people. If not possible to stay away, don't talk to them, they are probably stupid redneck idiots. Associate with a more intelligent and better crowd.. You will find someday that your accent is very much desired.

the only factor i will think of of is to mock them in how they talk. i like to hearken to ppl communicate that are southern, or from England or some thing. i like diverse accents. So do no longer you experience undesirable or unhappy bc of your accessory. Hell i'm from the city and ppl say I talk southern.

extend your right arm all the way open your left hand and proceed to slap the taste out of their mouth every time. That should stop it after a few times lol
