Uninstall all vga drivers. Pull out the MX 440 then clean the contact pins by rubbing it with the eraser tip of a pencil. Reinstall the card. Disable background processes. Install the graphics card driver.

If problem persists, that card may have an intermittent defect or have contact pin problem with your AGP slot.

Try different in-game resolution and screen size settings.

Possibly the mx440 is trying to operate above your monitors performance settings and causing problems.

What kind of monitor do you have?

Also, make sure you uninstall anything Nvidia from your control panel and REBOOT BEFORE installing your new video card drivers. Some old files may be conflicting with new ones.

Check what the new card has for video settings and the cange you video settings under control panel--display--monitor settings.
