Sad state of affairs if the only way you can sense, oops, smell danger is if someone leads you by the nose. I know someone who has an awesome sense of danger, (as well as how to deal with it). Can't help wondering why many assumed this was someone sticking their fingers up your nose?? Did I miss anything? Also, dear Third P, animals have have FAR greater instinct than humans do. I think we all had this in some far distance past, but like many things, have lost it. That's partly why people who haven't got it, will scoff at the possibility a human can have this "sixth:" sense.

If you're led by the nose, that means someone has a grip on it, so whatever is on his fingers is right there to smell. And if he has a grip, then heck yes you can smell danger, because you're right in the middle of it!

But seriously, no, those who are said to be led by the nose usually do not recognize or acknowledge the danger they are in, since they are in the submissive role under the control of those with the stronger personality. Or the harder fists, bigger gun, etc.

Like the man said, if it is a burning house or something like that, then yes you can. The way you phrased the question implyed the use of the olfactory senses but perhaps you meant that sixth sense of impending danger. The sixth sense is also a myth of sorts if you think about it. If a person is observant then with all the senses one can "see" danger approaching. An unfamilar sound, a misplaced shadow, a distracting odor, the door knob doesn't feel right, a distinct alarming taste and you have all the ingrediants for that perception we call the sixth sense to kick in.

-As a kid this happened to me very often. There's two reasons why If you are led by your nose your not able to smell anything at all. First if whom ever is guiding you, is pinching your nose you can't. Second if their fingers are in your nostrils then, you can't. however your sense of touch should allow you to perceive, even if it is through your nose that you are in trouble..lol.not necessarily danger.

-Then again seriously, if you are being led by your nose, is like saying that you are easily lured into many different situations, without using your discretion or your discernment.

-In a nut shell its saying that the your not a mature human, one who lets reason guide its life.

-The answer is no!

Yes, probably, but smelling or not the danger will not be the problem. Keeping out of the harms way is

No. Theoretically and physically thinking, if you are led by your nose, you have someone else's fingers up it, thus, all you can smell is his/her fingers. Let's hope they wash their hands. Also, if you could smell danger at all, you wouldn't let anyone near your nose in the first place.

Yes, if the danger involves burning, gasoline, bad guys who've been living outside and thus never taken a bath, and that sort of stuff.

I sure hope so. Your nose tells you a multitude of things, not the least of which being danger.

I would say yes as the idiomatic goes as " i smell something fishy..... this i believe refers to the human instinct when clear and present danger is at stake. Our sense is also sensitive as far as there is an imminent threat posing before us. That i think makes us human unique.
