had both over the years. found them to be equally tough and both very dependable. fuel mileage, nissan beat toyota slightly. seemed the suspensions under toyota were better and easier to keep aligned but had trouble with timing chain wear on the toyota. the nissan had a lot of cosmetic stuff fall off or break... door handles, trim around the windshield, and a few minor battery connection problems. all told with each vehicles idiosynchrosies, i honestly would enjoy having another of either. can't put much diff between them and guess price would be the deciding factor. both these vehicles were earlier 90's models and having a shop, i feel both have kept up on their engineering and improving equally. a tough call for sure, so good luck.

They are vastly different. Just like Ford GM and Chrysler is in the US. Nissan is now a french company and has been for a few years. They are owned by renault. As far as quality and other items some american cars fair better then nissan and honda. I am in the fleet business and we weigh all factors, purchase cos t, repair costs, insurance costs and resale value. In order with us anyway. Totoya, Honda, Nissan. Totota as they have grown has suffered in quality and is sinking fast. Nissan has has the highest repair cost of most any thing on the road. Brake jobs alone are very expensive. Brake job on a Altima runs about 30% higher the a Ford or Toyota.

Both are good cars but Toyata's double cam engines are somehow quiter and smother than Nissan. Moreover, Toyata is relatively more powerful and fuel economical than Nissan in general. They are slightly more expensive to buy. Old Toyota does much better than old Nissan. New Toyota is only marinally better than New Nissan.

Both can be great. But check the facts, like Carfax, Consumers Report, and J.D.Powers, not peoples opinions.

Toyota are rated as fantastic for reliability across the board, though some are a bit stodgy (New Tundra, Camry and PathFinder are nice though, as are the older Supras and MR2s)

Nissan has some highly rated models, like the Altima and Maxima, and some of the worst made cars like the Armada and Quest which received DRs lowest ratings for reliabilty.

So really the question is what matters more to YOU?
A car that is fun but likely to cost you a lot more to own and operate over its life, or one that is Bulletproof, and depending on the model, might be exciting, or not.

Hope that helps.

P.s. according to these same sources, for the mospart german cars are crap, unless you are wealthy enough to trade every other year, before they start to fall apart. As I said B4, check the facts, ignore the hype.

I think Toyota is better. The Camry isn't the #1 selling car in America for no reason.
And Landi, you might want to check the model of that van, because Toyota did not make the Sienna in '87.

Toyota's are more reliable.
Nissan's are faster and sportier.
They are both Japanaese cars ans both are reliable.
Nissan's V6 engines are some of the best around.
Toyota has better hybrid technology.
If its performance and more fun to drive, the Nissan is better.
If you dont care about that stuff, Toyota is better.
