They are going to keep demanding their money and if they don't get the book back within a certain amount of time then they will charge you anyways. This happens to a lot of people and it's fraud. But they'll keep saying that you ordered it and there is no way of proving who did actually place the order. If they keep hounding you and threaten to send you to a credit collector then call your District Attorneys office. Call them and speak to the Consumer Protection division and they can tell you what to do or they can make a call on your behalf. Also, report them to the Better Business Bureau. You can find them online and see if there has been other reports about this company. It's good to have this information if you have to call the DA.

Good Luck!

This happened to me from Time Life Books... it was a book full of pictures of people suffering and natural disasters and stuff... it was pretty depressing.

Anyway, the law says if you received a book that you did not order, you are not responsible for anything. They can tell you that you owe the money, they can send a letter, but as long as you did not order it, you do not owe anything... AND THE BOOK IS YOURS!

You are NOT obligated to return the book. You are not obligated to pay for the book. Dont call the company, dont tell them who you are.... dont waste your time with them.

CONGRATS! You got a free book! Happy Birthday!

Check with your family members, or housemembers to make sure they didn't order the book. Do you log into public computers like at the library or internet cafes? Perhaps you did not log out and someone ordered the book?

Either way, once it's returned, you won't have to worry about paying for it. Just mark the package "Return to sender"

However, if you are forced to pay for the book, make sure you pay to have it tracked!! Otherwise the company (which sounds extremely sketchy) can say they never received it, and charge you for it anyway!

Best of luck!

if you receive merchandise in the mail that you did not order you do not have to pay for it. you are not legally obligated to return the book but if you do or did be sure you get proof from the post office. then if anything comes up you can show you returned it.

Is this some book club you joined? If so, tell them to cancel your membership.

If you didn't join a book club, forget about it. So what if they bill you? They're not going to do anything about it. If it goes to collections or on your credit report, you can dispute it and have the charge taken off. (Hopefully you sent it back registered mail so they can't claim they never received it.) Report them to the Better Business Bureau too.

Tell the people that you could have just kept the book..

You didn't order it.

US Postal regulations.. if someone sends you something you didn't order... its free.

Tell them to fix thier bookeeping or you'll file a complaint with the post office.

Go online to your state's attorney general and print a complaint form. Report this fraud and send a copy of it to the criminals trying to rip you off. This will usually get them off of your back. Be sure to check your credit cards to see if you have been a fraud victim. Best of luck to you!!

If you are sent something that you did not order, you can keep it without paying for it. Don't send these people money. You sent them their book back. If they keep hounding you, write to your state district attorney about the problem. That will stop them.

Call the company and tell them you did not order the book and you are not going to pay. My ex-husband once ordered a magazine subscription to get the free stuff without telling me, in my name. I called the magazine and they told me to forget about it. Anyone could get your info and order for you, you are not obligated to pay them.
