if you are up the the challenge i would suggest maybe building your own. its not as difficult as it sounds and it's very rewarding. your budget allows for a lot of customization. if you're only interested in buying a pre-built system, this looks like a great deal.

if you decided to go this route, this would be an awesome gaming machine, and it would cost you around $1400. keep in mind this doesn't include tax, shipping costs or mail in rebates. there aren't any games taking advantage of quad core processors yet, but for multitasking, intensive applications etc you cant beat it, and its ready for when games start using multiple cores.

Well I know I will probably get bashed for this, but you should look into getting an iMac. They come with the latest ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB of GDDR3 memory, 2.4 ghz Core 2 Duo, 320 GB hard drive, 1 gig of RAM(up to 4), 8x double layer super drive, and it is all in one taking up very little space for the price your looking for - $1,499. Games are coming back to the Mac, although there are already Mac only games, PC games are starting to pop up more rapidly as Apple is now taking about 60% - 75% of computer sales in the last 2 years.

Also you can install Windows XP or Vista on it, for games that are still PC only. This is not an emulated version of windows either, it runs at full speed and uses up the normal amount of resources. It is also DX capable.

Try building it yourself. Best bang for your buck, and it's a great experience if you've never done it before. I've heard Alienware gaming systems are pretty good, but they aren't cheap. Or you can try a company called Cyber Power Inc.. Mac's don't have as many games running on it yet, so...yea. Sony's look nice, never owned one, but they seem pretty nice.

Try CyberPowerPC.com if you would like to customize. However, you'll get a slightly better deal looking for a pre-built computer at Newegg.com.

Someone will suggest Alienware, they severely overcharge, and they don't overclock, as well as giving you a horribly ugly case. Their service is sub-par at best, and there's nothing that makes them any better than CyberPowerPC.com and plenty making them worse.

Wow, someone above me has a 4 word answer and they don't have a thumbs down, but my answer got one... Wow.

do yourself a favor and build one yourself. PC venders are a huge rip off and you get lower quality hardware. Plus, pre built computers are loaded with all kinds of extra "junk" software. Visit sites like www.newegg.com www.tomshardware.com, or www.anandtech.com to familiarize yourself with whats out there. Don't be afraid to do this yourself...it's not hard.
