Probing is the most common way. (I won't go into details since everyone else has been answering already ^.^;)

In the past few years, more and more people have had vets take x-rays of their snakes to determine gender, instead of probing. Now, it doesn't matter to me if my two snakes (based on different physical traits: believed to be males) are male or female. I'm not going to be breeding them or anything. But if I really wanted to know, I'd go with x-rays. There are less risks involved and having a metal rod stuck up your *** can't be that pleasant of an experience! ~.~ Ouch!

Well, it depends on the species. A male may differ in size than a female of the same species. But since reptiles can sometimes be difficult to accuratly tell the gender, probing may have to be a solution. But I would say this... DON'T try probing anything yourself. It can be dangerous and damage your reptile. A vet can do it, but it's not exactly cheap...

The most reliable method of determining a snake's gender is to have it probed by someone (such as a vet) who specializes in herps.

There is a probe that you stick up their butthole, and if it goes in deep it is a male, if it just stops it is a female

This site tells it all~and this goes for most all snakes, not just corn snakes
