I would have to say by accepting them for who they are then helping them out with that in mind.

Emotionally support them to live the life they want to live, to go for their dreams. and be their rooting section. Find reasons to celebrate their decisions and urge them to press on and to communicate with lots of people along the way and to give as well as receive.

I think every person owes to oneself to be able to stand up on one's own feet..
And the best way to help someone is to inspire them to stand on their own two feet and be independent...

I'll use an analogy(?) that I learned many years ago.

You can give a hungry man a fish and feed him for one day or you can teach a man to fish so he can feed himself everyday.

By making them strong and self-reliant. By not enabling them to continue their self-destructive tendencies. Sometimes by letting them fail so they can learn from it.

let them make their own mistakes.unless this is detrimental to their health/life, if so explain to them their ignorance you may then control them and rule the world.

don't search for a person. if somebody deserves help, he/she will seek help. you have no choice to decide if seeker expects money and you offer blood!
