My husband has had a vasectomy for 5 years.
This morning when I got up I felt a little light headed and during the day, off and on I feel a bit sick to my stomach. It seems like food smells are also stronger. I am scheduled to see my doctor in a few weeks. Is pregnancy at this stage of the game and under these circumstances even a possibility? .........and NO I have not sleep with anyone else.......

Being in the medical field here's my answer:
Yes. While most vasectomies would keep you from getting pregnant, there is a small percentage that could. I would suggest getting your husband to get a sperm count done. Any doctor can arrange this for you.

Of course you can get pregnant!

Did youre DH complete his ALL CLEAR semen tests after the procedure?!

The only reason I say this is because my sisters hubby had his vasectomy... Never went back to the Dr. and then she popped up pregnant again! So, this time he goes to the Dr. and they did the test and determined that he was producing positive sperm samples at 8 months and then at 12 months he was diagnosed with a failed vasectomy!

So, if your husband never completed his all clear testing he may still be producing active sperm.

I worked for urologist and I scheduled vasectomies. Like most of these answers...yes you can still get pregnant if your husband is producing positive sperm. You should take a home pregnancy test.

The most common reason for a vasectomy to fail, is failure to follow instructions. Standard procedure calls for getting two tests after the vasectomy to verify that it worked. Most men don’t follow up. I only went back once after six months.

I was careful, and continued to use condoms because I don’t want kids, and won’t take chances.

Some of these answers make me laugh... Sorry. Actually, it is possible. My father had a vasectomy after I was born. 13 years later, my baby brother was born. It was rediculous!! My mom thought she was coming down with something, was sick for quite a few months, went to the doctor, just to find out she was 5 months pregnant..WOW!! Good luck!!

Yes, it has been known to happen. A lot depends on how the vasectomy was done and WHEN it was done. Did he return to get at least two sperm counts to make sure the surgery worked?
Best wishes.

It has been known to happen, but it's very rare. It's also possible that you're coming down with a bug. In which case, light handedness, smells, etc, can aggravate things.

Attached is more information about the process.
