To answer some of your concerns;
I'm not at all depressed, but I definitely see that happening in the future
I don't think old people are useless, my mom is 65 and can probably kick my butt
I've already skydived (repeatedly), bungie-jumped, fast-roped, been in several life or death situations

Your problem isn't that you don't want to live past 45. You problem is that you don't want to be stuck in a rut or a low paid job when you're 45.

As such, the solution is obvious. Get rich, get a job you like, or get a better retirement plan. Those depressed 44 year olds didn't plan their retirement until they were 43. You can avoid that by planning it now.

It is very conceivable to begin saving money outside of a 401k to allow retirement at 45. All you have to do is put that Starbucks coffee money into the bank instead of your bladder.

Depending on the interest you get, for every $25 per week you begin saving now, you'll have $60,000 at age 45. Assuming a 10% rate of return, every $60,000 saved will equal $6,000 per year in garanteed income for the rest of your life starting at age 45!!

$50 bucks per week (Less than the amount you'll pay for one new car over your lifetime). = $12,000 per year garanteed for life after age 45 . . . . . $100 = $24,000 etc.

Unfortunately, suicide is the answer to your question, assuming you still attach any importance to the question as you reach closer to 45.

My aim was the same as yours when I was 22. I didn't want to live past 35. Now I'm 37, and have learned to make do.

There are a lot of things you can do that will not leave you feeling that you're a cog in the machine. Maybe you could work in areas that help the environment, the underprivileged, the uneducated, etc.

Or you could be a government assassin. That way you get to eliminate some of the nastier "cogs".

Cheers. Live life as long as you want to.

What you need to do is prepare for your future, try to do the best, in order to avoid what you fear. But let me tell you, with age, the expectations in life change. You'll see that, when you reach 45 years old, you'll still feel young and active, and you'll have a good life, a wife, children, you know.

Maybe you are crossing trough a depression right now, don't let it win, go out, and fight for your future.

Merci!!!

have you ever tried to donate your time with Volunteer match.com? Maybe worrying about other people might changed your attitude. OR how about try looking for PT employment doing something you won't make much money at but you'll have fun OR end up like me unemployed ex paper pusher, ex teacher, ex retail ex everything and trying to find myself- of coarse I think I will go back to retail because that way I can deal with people and know what is going on instead of worrying about myself. Try it.

So do something different! Vow that you'll keep looking, moving, and changing both jobs and environments until you find the gig/job/career that you absolutely love. It's not that hard to do, especially when you're young. Have fun in life and your 401k will be the last thing you'll worry about.

Can I have your organs? I don't need them, but you know, just as a spare.

But seriously, I'm 45 right now and it is not that bad. I feel I have grown more from 40-45 than at any other time in my life. We keep growing and getting stronger later in life in ways you don't expect when you are young.

I know the readers will say i am crazy. But that's o:k too. The answer to your question is" Tell God what you want and he will deliver. There is nothing that states you have to get old. I am already up in age. And able to take care of myself. Still driving safely. And have all of my senses. The day they leave especially my eye sight and mind i want out of here. I do not want to depend on any one for any thing.

stop worrying about it, as you get closer to the age you think is the end of the world, you will have the experience and wisdom to deal with it. It sounds like you have everything figured out, but beleive me when I tell you that life STARTS at 40.
