At 21, you have not earned the right to retire, nor do you know yet how to fully appreciate free time, nor would you have the money to afford yourself & your lifestyle yet. At 21, you haven't really worked at a real job (at least not for very long) and some people actually have small babies already who need things bought for them like food and shelter, etc. The US government is NEVER going to lower the retirement age because it would mean less money coming in through income taxes; at this point, the gov't is talking about upping the retirement age because there aren't going to be enough people contributing to the tax funds to support all the expenses so they want to make people work more years so they'd contribute even more to taxes.
'Cause a whole lot of folks would NEVER enter the work force ever, folks might stop procreating just so they wouldn't have to stop playing to support a family. It'd be a fiasco.
Personally, I think nature got it all wrong. I think as people grow older and their bodies start to fail, we ought to physically regress back to our youthful bodies--probably pre-pubescence (pre-breeding at least) so when we do hit retirement age, we'd be in great physical shape, have the money (we've saved and all) over all those years of working to spend, have the time and energy to do all those things we haven't had the time to do, etc.

Retire from what? look the most productive years of ones life are between the age of 19 - 45 or so.
There is nothing wrong with working, it gives us money, keeps us out of trouble, and, gives structure to our lives. without work we would not be able to contribute to society..

It's not the gov't that required me to enter the workforce. It was my bank account!

That's okay if they will advance you your pension, and you can start working and pay the premiums at age 50 or so.
