Democrats have been promising universal health coverage for at least 30 years, and healthcare is more screwed up than ever.
They've promised to stick it to the corporations, who have become more powerful than ever.
They've promised for 40 years to clean up the environment which is now dirtier than ever.
Republicans have promised to reduce government, which is bigger than ever.
They promised to defend freedom from government intrusion, which is now all but a joke.
They said we wouldn't 'police the world' and here we are in two simultaneous lands, 'nation-building.'
Why does the majority of the voting population continue to vote for the same old thing when they all claim to want change? Has propaganda become so refined, have our attention spans become so short, or is it just that history is not valued or understood?

For many years now Americans have been conned into believing we have a real choice @ election time.
The truth is the candidate that spends the most money on advertising their own virtues becomes a front runner and blitzes the T.V. screen with appearances.
Where does this advertising money come from?
Well, there is an organization, started in 1921 by the international banking firm of J. P. Morgan called the CFR. It has about 4,700 members, and pretends to have Americas best interests at heart, which is far, far from the truth, since they have a disregard for the U.S. Constitution.
The CFR finances both Republicans & Democrats who basically have a similar political agenda.
However, Americans currently have a non-owned, non-bought & paid for candidate, called Ron Paul entered in the Presidential race, who I think has a real chance of up-setting the OLDE Apple cart. {politics as usual}
Ron Paul is counting on the grassroots Patriotic majority of non-CFR backed Americans, who believe in the Constitution enough to 'regain' the political high road to Liberty & Justice for All, as guaranteed in the Constitution.
A Vote For Him is a Vote For Thomas Jefferson's brand of politics!
Thank You.

The elections in the U.S.A. and many other countries are just an extension of the High School presidential electrictions. A Popularity Contest.
The one who looks the prettiest/most handsom, flashiest campaign, can take an hour to say absolutely nothing but convince the audience that they have been promised the moon. That is the candidate who will likely win.
The majority of people who have 'the hard earned right to vote' do not give it any justice.
Very few people actually research the background of the candidates and the parties.
The key to being an informed voter is unbias, open minded research, research, research.
Make your own minds up. Do not let all the pomp and flash sway you to any candidate or party.
Do not waste your vote. Protest votes do not really work. How often are the Protest vote results made public? The only way Protest Votes can make a difference is if at 'least' a 'large minority to a small majority of the votes' are Protest Votes and the results of the Protest Votes are made PUBLIC. Protest Votes are group in with spoiled ballots.
Do your own research with an open and unbiased mind.
Make your choice.
Practice your right to a secret ballot.
Many countries do not have this right.
In WWI and WWII many people fought and died to give you this right. Do not dishonour them by being complacent.
Good Luck and Research, Research, Research!!!!

There is a simple explanation for this. History tends to repeat itself. We haven't learned from our mistakes. As a nation, we are reactive rather than proactive on nearly all the issues. Socail Security Crisis, Global Climate Change, illegal immigration; even at the state level with road construction and disaster relief. We know that hurricanes, earthquakes and flooding occur, but states that are prone to these natural occurances don't plan for any of it. Until recently, we declared war against our enemies AFTER they strike us first. Even as a society, some people would rather have an abortion later than think about what they are doing before it happens and practice safe sex. It's called a paradigm shift, and as a nation, we haven't been pushed to think about planning for the future. And of course, all politicians care about is the moment they get elected for things that need to be fixed at the present or are past due. I could go on and on, but I think people reading this will get my point.

Yea to all. I seem to remember however that the Republicans have dominated politics for a long while now. Both parties are bad, but the Republicans just scare the hell out of me and the Democrats are getting screwier all the time. What a revolting development!

Change is very slow for a lot of reasons. Usually when the Prez is one party, congress majority leans the other direction. This is a good balance of power, but does make serious change a slow process.

i don't know - we are so very rip for a third party candidate to pop up.
actually given the actions of all branches of government and the amount of corruption - i don't even think this form of government can last much longer.
