Okay, I just talked to the experts-- my old ma and pa. They said they used to use these:

1. a special typewriter eraser, that had an eraser on one end and a little brush on the other.
2. special white paper, that you inserted in front of your page and then struck it so it erased what lay behind it.
3. a white ribbon, which seemed to work the same way-- it marked out the mistake.
4. as others have suggested, white out.

All these things are probably difficult to find today. I have an old typewriter, too, but I can't find the right ribbon for it. I know there are some companies on the internet that still sell typewriter supplies, though, so good luck.

Poor thing! Why are you using a typewriter? Why not your computer? Those are a pain in the neck. The only thing I can recommend is white-out. Erasers leave ugly marks.

Best of luck to you.

Typewriters cannot backspace like computers can. Looks like you're just going to have to always start a new page if you make a mistake.. Try to type slower and more carefully.
