to buy or sale or to even have freon in your possession you must have an EPA freon handling certificate...you take a class then a test and if you pass you will receive one in the mail from the EPA...you have to get copies of the card to give one to any wholesaler that you plan to purchase freon from... you also have to have a recovery or reclaim machine and tank registered with the EPA in order to do any work on any refrigeration or air conditioning systems...this must be within 75 feet of any area where you are working on hvac or refrigeration..you can legally work on your own equipment without a having a state license to do hvac work but you have to have the EPA card and reclaim machine...

You must have the refrigerant handler's certification. Wholesalers won't sell to you, as you are not familiar to them. You need to work for a retailer, who will introduce you to the wholesaler, or if you are an independent, they will know you and have your certification on file.

To be certified, you must study the EPA rules and regulations for refrigerants and pass an exam. It is not that difficult, but Puron operates at nearly twice the pressure of current refrigerants. It is also a fractionated blend, so adding and removing the refrigerant is a little different.

GENERALLY THE ANSWERS ARE TRUE. IN SOME STATES YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE THE EPA CERTIFICATION AND ALSO A STATE AIR CONDITIONING LICENSE TO BUY REFRIGERANT LIKE R4201A, R22 ECT. ASK ANY WHOLESALER OR 2 AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY FOR YOUR STATE.
