Firstly make sure you have a box of kitty litter in case he needs to go again the scented type is really good. Next you need gloves and buckets of clean fairly hot water with disinfectant to really clean the floors and carpet shampoo if you have carpet so everything gets a clean and a wipe over. All the bed linen needs to be cleaned and aired as well. It's a big job so just make sure he has somewhere nice to go so that you are not in this position too many times. If a fresh accident does happen clean area straight away dry with hair dryer and rub in bicarb of soda in the dry area to absorb any odour so good luck and I hope he improves. They usually do as they get older.

Go to PetSmart or some other specialty pet store like that... in the cat section they have special products for getting pet urine and odors off of and out of stuff. The best seem to the the ones with enzymes. You can usually find a special little light that detects urine.

Not to be mean, but when was the last time you washed the litter box itself? I have 3 cats and use scoopable litter....the litter gets scooped out every night and then every few days to a week (depending), I change out all the litter and clean the box with bleach (and rinse VERY well and dry it well) before putting the new litter in. It does help. But, even with cleaning the box, after awhile you just CANT get the smell out, and have to buy a new box.

I don't know about eating it, but first you pick up cat poop then heavily clean the area with vinegar and water then use the febreeze. By the way what's this have to do with folklore?

You cannot get it out if it is in the carpet unless you get rid of the carpet. You cannot get rid of it if it is in the wood floor either unless you pull up the floor. My friend tried to sell a house that had cat urine smell and no one would buy it because of that and there was nothing they could do to get rid of it. If it is only in the carpet you are lucky, just remove the carpet, but unfortunately they (cats) tend to use the same area a lot and that stuff leaks through to the floor.
