Lying on my resume?

I'm sick of getting the shi# end of the stick, and I've decided that I'm going to lie on my resume. I've seen too many idiotic people get a job that pays way better than what I'll ever make just because they have a college degree. I don't have a college degree YET, but I'm getting straight A's in school, and I have a lot of work experience. Does anyone in YA land have experience with lying on their resumes? Any stories about how you lied and got the job as a result? I really need some encouragement! I'm going to apply for a business analyst position and think I have all my bases covered. I've even made some fake transcripts with a seal of the college printed on them. I doctored the transcripts with my name by using real ones. I'm aware of the possibility that an employer will do a background check on my education qualifications, but they do that BEFORE they hire someone. So, I'm still employed; therefore, I have nothing to lose! STORIES???

I have to recommend that you don't lie. I work for an employment screening company, and you would not believe how many businesses are doing background checks now on new hires. I guarantee that if the company you are applying with does a background check, they will find the discrepancies. Just don't risk that. I've seen people get hired today, and then tomorrow they are terminated because the results of the check came back, and the employer found that they don't have a degree they said, or they didn't work at a company they stated.

And an employer would want to hire someone with questionable ethics, why, again? Yes, we conduct background checks - we check yoru education and verify your degree for the exact reason you indicate - because people lie. If we find that you are one of those people, we will rescind your job offer. If you didn't have a degree when you came to work for my company, and now you suddenly do, I have the option to run a check on you whether you are currently employed or not. If you're smart enough to get straight A's, then you're smart enough to know that cheaters get caught out eventually. Somewhere down the road you'll interview with someone who is a real alum of your chosen institution and will ask what profs you had, which dorm you lived in, etc. and will figure out pretty quickly that you're a liar. The business network is like a small town, and word travels fast. Please don't be stupid enough to do this.

I personally don't have a story. But I do remember a question that was posted here about a month ago related to it. The person said they finished their degree and had a finished date on the resume but they still had about a semester to go. Yes, they offered the job but immediately retracted when they found out it was a lie. It doesn't matter if you are already working for them or not, they can retract the offer or fire you if they found out it's a lie.

Honestly it is not really about the degree - its about being competent in the job someone allows you to manage. If someone is ignorant/lazy enough to give you the job without the correct qualifications then shame on them. Lying on your resume might get you in the door but its up to you to pull off the sale. You wouldnt be the first to do it but I would suggest analyzing the position/industry you plan to enter so that in the event you need to reference your B.S. skills, you might be able to skate by without much notice. Lying is only as bad as you let it get. If you plan to apply for a doctor, dont lie on your resume. If you plan to manage a McDonalds...the fudge room is a little more acceptable. College degrees dont let employees know anything more than that you have determination, aquired skills and that you are loyal (to a certain extent). good luck and remember that if you feel guilty about your lies, you probably should....dont do it.

I know of many individuals who have lied on resumes, without any consequences. However, doctoring transcripts is fraud, and will get you fired. This is more likely to happen in government agencies, or large corporations with big Human Resources departments. There are HR staff whose job it is to routinely go through applications and references to verify information. I know people that lie on their resume, just to get the interview and job offer, but when they fill out the official application and personnel paperwork, they tell the truth.

Don't do it! Lying on your resume will comeback to haunt you. I understand your frustration. No one wanted to give my a job until I had my degree. And now after, they are wanting 10+ years experience. If you know of someone who lied on their resume, call his boss and let him know. Undoubtedly they should have done a background check before hiring. Just be true to yourself it will make it easier later in life.

Now, as for the question at the the top of this screen: HELL NO!! Wait until you can honestly say that you have a degree. Why take the chance of ruining the rest of your life? Just be patient, and keep studying.

By the way, prospective employers send a form DIRECTLY to the college asking for a transcript. They want it sent DIRECTLY
back to them. Sorry, but your forgeries aren;t worth the room they take up.

If you get caught, which you might or might not, you will find yourself being walked out the door by Security before you even know you're being fired, and they probably won't give you your last paycheck, and will probably take back any retirement contributions they've made.

It's fraud. You could (probably won't) go to jail.
