Traditionally the seasons are quarters of the yesr and the summer begins at the summer solstice and ends at the autimnal equinox = Sep 21st or thereabouts.
However, both the Summer solstice, June 21st , and St John's day, June 24th, are called midsummers day so they should be in the middle. If we add 45/46 days to them we get a range of dates from August 5th to 9th - so that means Summer ended some time this week!

If you make a judgement based on the weather, as opposed to the calendar, in California summer ends in late September, some times late October and then fall begins.
And this year, we fall back an hour in November. Otherwise, Fall begins September 21.
