i read a pamphlet that said you should go to an ob/gyn when you either lose your virginity or turn 21. Is there any reason why a woman must see an obgyn at the age of 21 even if she is a virgin?

They want to start doing pap smears at that time to check for irregularities that could signify cancer. Cervical cancer is almost impossible to detect without this test. If caught early, it is highly treatable. This is also an opportunity to discuss and other health problems you may be having.

A woman should have a pelvic exam and pap smear (doesn't have to be by an OB/GYN, it can be done by a primary care physician if that doctor is ok with it if you don't have female problems) on a regular basis to check to make sure that she is not having female problems. And if it is suspected that you have a female problem then it can be caught early.

Many primary care physicians have no problems with doing annual exams on women but if there are female problems that occur they usually prefer to leave it to an OB/GYN. The reason why is because the OB/GYN can stay on top of it.

Some doctors still want their patients to start getting the exam at 18, not just at 21.

Women who are a virgin should still have an exam on a regular basis whether by a primary care physician or an OB/GYN to make sure things are normal and catch potential problems early. Virgins can also have issues with not only HPV (which I did 4 years ago) but have other female problems like cysts occurring or even endometriosis.

In seventeen magazine it says you should start seeing an ob/gyn by the time you turn 15 years old or start being sexually active, whichever comes first. They just recommend doing this so you stay healthy down below, lol.

Yes, there is a reason to see a gynecologist - more specifically to do regular pap smear tests. There is no harm in getting it done and I recommend you have it done at least once a year. I'm telling you this out of personal experience because it saved my girlfriend's life.

It never hurts to do a check up. Hope this helps.

For your overall feminine health, you should see your GYN at 21, even if you are a virgin.

Yes, definitely. There are many female reproductive system issues which are totally unrelated to sexual activity. You want to get checked at least for breast cancer and probably get a Pap smear to make sure you don't have cervical cancer.

Yes, usually they recommend a pelvic exam and Pap smear to make sure you're not developing any ovarian cancer; it's also a good time for a breast exam to check for breast cancer. Better safe than sorry.
Your regular doctor can usually do this, if you don't want to go to a specialist.

there are female problems that can be present, that have absolutely nothing to do with intercourse.
Women can develop different types of female cancers, that can be detected early and treated.
