The only reliable way to regulate it is to take birth control.

Birth control pills regulate periods. It's certainly not natural regulation, but you'll know just when your periods are going to come every cycle. I used to get mine once every few months, if that, when I was not on birth control. I went a whole year once without a period. When I got into my late twenties and went off the pill to have kids, though, after about 6 months of being off the pill, my period started coming like clockwork, and I've been normal ever since.

This IS normal. The body is not a robot, producing the exact same result every single time; the body is a work of nature, influenced by many things and producing slight variations.
The older you get, the more your hormones calm down, and the more regualr your period will become. You can also try going on birth control pills - this usually works great for regulating your period and cutting down on any surprises.

the same thing happens to me sometimes. I wouldn't worry about it. Irregular peroids are normal, and there is really nothing that I know about that can make it normal. Just wait, and maybe it'll become more regular :)

This could be related to a hormone imbalance. The only way to know for sure is to have this evaluated by your doctor to see what they think is going on.

What's normal for you may not be normal for another person. So you need to discuss this with your doctor. He may be able to give you something to help you.
