Does windex harm any metals is sort of what I am asking. I've used it to clean almost everything in kitchens without thinking very much about it. I was wondering about on plated objects, like instruments and the trim on some things. It says not to use it on brass, wood, copper, or pewter (tin/antimony/copper) and to test it first.

I don't think that it isn't the smartest thing to clean silver plated things with. A good alternative is toothpaste. Toothpaste works great on silver, copper, and gold.

I thought Windex was only used for glass, even although news paper warm water and vinegar is best for window´s , No streak´s, Cleaning silver or silver plated best to use a proprietary silver polish , use a soft cloth or chamois leather. Always polish silver in straight strokes, not a crosswise or rotary motion. After polishing, clean in hot soapy water

HANDWASHING SILVER
1. Fill sink with warm water and mild dish detergent.
2. Hand wash each individual piece of silver.
3. Using a soft cotton dish towel, dry silver completely.
4. Dull silver can be buffed a little with a dry cotton cloth.

If it oxidizes, it tarnishes. Then:
1. Fill sink full of steaming hot water.
2. Mix 2-tablespoons salt and 2-tablespoons baking soda in bowl.
3. Add mixture to sink of hot water.
4. Cut a small sheet of aluminum foil and push it to the bottom of sink.
5. Dip silver items. Most tarnish will slide off. For stubborn stains, allow them to sit for up to 5-minutes at a time.
6. Rinse well.
7. Dry.
8. Store properly.

Dish cleansing soap gets any airborne dirt and dirt off. i like Maas silver polish to bathe. As you sparkling the tarnish will come off further and extra. even according to threat a 2d or third bypass-around with the polish to get it precise, then it could have a coating which will help forestall new tarnish. whether it quite is a real vintage then you definately do no longer % to coat it with corn syrup crammed sticky pepsi. The ghetto technique is toothpaste. Paste. no longer gel.
