If you have access to a bookstore or library, I would recommend the book "Daily Life in Chaucer's England" by Jeffrey Singman and Will McLean. It has a lot of great information about the estate system, and how the Black Death was one of the reasons the estate system broke down (less peasants means more value given to labor, etc.).

For some basic information, there are usually several books in the bargain section at Barnes and Noble that deal with the Black Death, either directly or indirectly.

If you wanted to extend the Late Medieval period into the Early Modern period, books on Shakespeare, most notably I think the "Norton Shakespeare", contain a lot of information on theatre closings and its impact on theatre development for the Elizabethan/Jacobean stage.

This should give you a good start to your research, anyway.

A book called " The Great Mortality: An Intimate History of the Black Death, The Most Devastating Plague of All Time", by John Kelly, can probably give you a lot of information. I found this book easy to read and informative.

Have you read 'A Journal of the Plague Year' by Daniel Defoe? It was written 60 years after the Plague spread through London in 1665 and contains much information on the effects of the Black Plague on life in England.
