William Kent Krueger's Cork O'Connor series is unbelievable. You won't be able to put any of them down. But you have to read them in order, beginning with Iron Lake.

There is a brilliant book which i am sure not that many people have read as it's called "Dirty Weekend" (by Helen Zahavi) and most people would assume it's a dirty book about you know what. It is absolutley fantastic however, The "Dirty Weekend" is one woman called Bella's killing spree. She's not a psycho (well I suppose that's debateable) She's just fed up with abuse from men, but don't worry it's not all whiny or hysterical it's actually beautifully poetic, written in a kind of hemmingway-esque reserved, minimal style, very stylish. It may not be on the top 100 list of Lit greats but it is such a strange, unique, angry book. It's like nothing I've ever read before-I've read quite a lot. It will leave a lasting impression on you.

She almost never gets mentioned on Answers, but Clare Francis's books are all really good and well worth reading. Or get started on Harlan Coben - Your Darkest Fear would probably give you the thrill you're looking for, and then you'll want to read the rest!

Any book by Wilbur Smith. They are all fantastic and he has written over twenty novels. Never a bad one. A really prolific author.
Daphne-Du-Maurier also wrote some superb novels. She is the best female novelist I have ever read.
