You see, they hate America, so anything that is harmful to America is good with them. Pretty much that simple.

I agree. English should be spoken here. We need a common language to communicate especially in a time of emergency. Imagine trying to call 911 but you're unable to communicate your location or emergency. We can't put up street signs in every language. We have to find 1 language that is compatible with as many citizens as possible and English is it. I believe that nobody should receive a drivers license until they're able to read and write English. It's a safety issue.
I think we should approach the idea in a less abrasive manner though. Encourage people to learn the language. If people feel threatened or oppressed then they're not going to be motivated to learn the language. At the same time, America has always been a cultural melting pot and always will be, we just need to figure out a universal way to communicate.
In conclusion. I think English should be the national language when it comes to govt. sponsored programs and events. I only care about it for the safety reasons. That's it. I actually want to learn a new language.....Spanish possible.

Respectfully, I disagree. till you have interior reach American blood on your loved ones, each human beings got here to this united states speaking a distinctive language. English became our straightforward tongue, yet in maximum another progressed united states yet ours, little ones are required to earnings a 2nd language. Being multi-lingual is a sturdy ingredient that promotes wisdom between human beings. Making English - which we don't talk very properly besides - the "valid" language purely discourages little ones from gaining knowledge of a 2nd language and that's unlikely to help them with the aid of fact the international turns right into a greater place and we would desire to do further and further of our organization international to stay rich. possibly that's what we Democrats try to tell you with our oblique solutions.

Think about it, genius, if the US declares its official language English, is it *really* going to affect/change your life? Is it going to stop other people from speaking other languages? It isn't, and there are wayyy more pressing issues that are important than debating whether we make something official or not. The next thing you know, the US would declare Christianity as the official religion.

We do understand. Some of us just don't see being able to speak multiple languages as a bad thing. Making the US multi-lingual will likely not happen and even if it did you could still speak English. So quit gripping already.

We understand that. But the next time I am in Germany or Italy I don't want to hear an American speaking in english to a native of either country. Learn their language before you go. And no, taking the book German for Dummies does not take place of actually learning the language. And why aren't you upset with the president? He doesn't know the english language. Tchuss!

Listen, nitwit, I am a Democrat that happens to agree that English should be our national language. So don't go lumping everybody in one pot there, pal. Such generalizations make you look stupid and void of all credibility because people know otherwise. That said, what have you done about it? Have you nagged your reps or just complained on YA where we can't do anything about it?

Based on what?
That the Spanish and French and Dutch settlements were more prominent here in the Americas before the English ones were?
That we forcibly tried to eradicate the languages of the Native Americans only to beg for their help as "windtalkers"?
Based on the fact that "America" has very important neighbors that speak French, Spanish, and Portuguese?
Or based on the fact that some of the oldest "purely American" languages are languages like Creole or Haitian?
You want to surround yourself with one white-bread culture and play the separatist game? Go for it. I'd rather be immersed in the joy of diversity in culture, race, and language.

Why are you not asking Bush that. He has not done one thing to hinder illegal immigration in this country. And you idol Reagan granted the first amnesty, that started this whole mess. All because big business Republicans wanted cheap labor. By the way, I am a Democrat, and strongly against illegal immigration, and being forced to learn Spanish.

Just to be a smart @rse and being English myself I would like to point out that the US hasn't used English for years.
Take a look at your President for proof.

You might want to ask your President this question.
At times, he speaks better Spanish than English!
Stop pushing the “border” issue off on “Democrats”, they’re only half to blame… the Republicans have been the ones reaping the profits of our broken borders and outsourcing.
Our whole Government is out of control… (Both “parties)
