I think that whenever a team gets a giant spotlight shined on them even before the season begins will usually cause a premature demise.
Take the Colts 2 years ago. Everyone was touting on how they will be the first team to go completely undefeated into the playoffs and win the Superbowl, the first time since the Dolphins did three decades ago. What happened? They choked in the playoffs.
Take the Chargers last year. Everyone was calling them best team in football, and how they had the best chance of going to the playoffs in the AFC. What happens? They choked in the playoffs.
There's just something about putting that much pressure on a team even before the season gets started. I don't know if it fills players with ego and they get careless or if the pressure to succeed gets to them, but it seems to happen almost every single time. The Patriots are likely to be the next victim of this phenomenon.

no fat chick is a fan who thinks that his team is superior to others and obviously has no appreciation for the game. the statement he just made was:
backup qb gets a try and preforms well for 1/2 a season then blows it in the playoffs > three superbowl rings and one time superbowl mvp.
::pauses to laugh out loud::
now to answer your question, i don't believe the patriots will win. however, if the patriots do GET to the superbowl, they have the capability of beating any team in the nfc. but keep in mind this decade the afc has been 1000 better than the nfc and the afc has some top contenders, such as the colts and chargers. new england will make the playoffs but i don't think they will get the chance to make it to the superbowl. moss is getting older so all the pats fans that say he will automatically take them there are wrong. their defense is significantly older as well. if the patriots do make it there, they will win. but i don't think they'll be able to get as far as the Superbowl.

I'm a Chargers fan and I can totally understand why people pick the Pats...the closest thing to a dynasty in the NFL and they did nothing but get better in the offseason. But to say in August that anyone is the "odds on" favorite is just unrealistic. There are at least 4 teams in the AFC (San Diego, Indy, New England, Baltimore) and 2 or 3 in the AFC (New Orleans, Chicago, Philly) who have a very legitimate shot, but they all have question marks. Betting against one team is not betting against the odds, it's saying that some of the other 31 teams have a shot...that's why they play the games.

The Patriots will have another GREAT team, but there are a lot of other AFC teams that have improved. Everyone has already counted Indy out, which is stupid. Then you have Baltimore, Denver, San Diego etc... I think the NY Jets may even win the AFC East. Chad Pennington is 100% healthy and they made some smart moves in the off season. They ALWAYS play the Pats tough. The NFC is a little weaker this year (in my opinion), so I do think the title will go to the AFC again, most likely being the Chargers.

Well, they are a loooong way from "the most talented". As mentioned they have an aging LB corps, other teams are getting their number now and most problematic, they picked up Randy Moss. This clown is pure toxic pond scum, a team destroyer, and he stopped even pretending to play football a couple of years ago. He just shows up to pick up the check these days!
The Pats are in serious trouble, they will struggle to win a improved division, but will go one and out come playoff time. Without the genius of Belichick this is at best a 9-7 team. And "everybody" is NOT actually picking them to win it all. Only some of the younger and more immature of the pundits. Many of the older wiser heads are saying a lot like the above.......

I'm sure that the AFC will win the superbowl, but it will not be the Patriots. Look for the Broncos, Jets, Chargers, Colts. Alot of tough teams in the AFC.

I believe the Patriots will not win the Superbowl...but, if you ask me that question about any of the teams in the league today, I'll give you the same answer...the odds are against every single team , but one of them will win anyway...I'll just have a better idea of who in December.

People that think they won't are betting against the odds! Look at the facts...
Last year they nearly beat the Colts with a bunch of WR that will be lucky to make this years team! Add to the fact they have added Addalis Thomas and have a ton of depth at LB (the single position that killed them against the Colts.)
The team always performs above expectations! With equal talent they win! With less talent they nearly win! This year they can line up with anyone and have a reasonable shot at having the advantage! Belichick consistantly out coaches every other coach in the league.
Will they win I have no idea are they one of two or three teams that have the best shot ABSOLUTELY!

First off they dont have the most talent on either side of the ball.....Very good QB an aging WR.....and a solid line.....but not the most talented on offense and a bunch of nobody's for the most part on defense the reason they are picked to win is because we have seen what Brady can do with a bunch of nobody's....now throw in what use to be a superstar wr and people get excited......

I don't think that they have the most talent as you implied. But putting that aside I also do not think that they will win the Superbowl this year. I predict that they don't even play in the AFC Championship game.
