whats your thoughts on;

speed/GHz - whats a good processor speed,
AMD vs Intel, quad core vs dual core?

brand - Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway

vista - premium vs ultimate...
i already use vista premium & i like it so far, i just wonder if the upgrade to ultimate is worth the extra cost
thanks for your input!

I only have two things to offer:
First; I am looking at my LAST Compaq. I have had two, one very early, when 80286 chip was king and this one. They were both lemons and I don't like lemonade.

Second; I actually prefer AMD processors. The company has a history of using very efficient instruction sets. I have noted many times that the benchmark speed tests are as much as 15% better over Intel when the same clock speed CPUs were tested against each other. While I haven't run any tests in years I have no reason to believe it is any different today than it was when I was doing that sort of thing.

EDIT: Fixed first sentence, sorry.

1. At least 2.4 Ghz.
2. Dual-core for now.
3. I've always used Intel. I've never had any problems with them.
4. Gateway
5. Premium.

i like dell the best because they are the cheapest...
core 2 duo 1.80GHz+ will be great
1GB RAM+
256MB video card $125+

that will set you at mabe 1000 for a dell laptop...
mabe $900 for desktop
