Protist are eukaryotic, meaning they have a nucleus and membrane bound DNA complexes. Bacteria are prokaryotes without membrane bound DNA complexes or organelles. Bacteria carry their DNA in one long strand within the cells cytoplasm. They are each actually in different kingdoms the highest form of classification. Protista and Monera (bacteria's kingdom). Other kingdoms are Plant, Animal, and Fungi.

protists and bacteria are different kingdoms of living organisms. Protists have different characteristics than bacteria. Protists can be single celled or multi-celled. They can reproduce sexually and a-sexually. The two kingdoms of bacteria (eubacteria and archaebacteria) are all single celled and reproduce through binary fission. Protists also have eukaryotic cells not pro-karyotic cells like the two kingdoms of bacteria. An example of a bacteria is E-coli, an example of a protist is algae. Some protists can also photosynthesize! :) :)
