Goldfish are unique. There is a reason why you never see them with other fish. They can't even share the same water unless there is a really good filteration system. There may be a few fish. Check out a local pet store (like Pets Mart) or go to walmart. I know fish from walmart are said to die more. Walmart has little things on the fish labels that say what you can put the fish with. I still don't recommend it. Maybe shrimp? They die really quick thought.

Well, first, a bala is a tropical fish and tropicals can't live with coldwater fish like goldfish because of temperature requirements. There are a few bottom feeders that are compatible with goldfish temperatures, but that's about it. And definitely no "colorful" mid/upper level swimming fish. I won't go into which fish are compatible, however, as you would be overstocking your 10 gallon tank if you put any other fish in there. Including another goldfish. I'm hoping that for a 10 gallon tank, you only have one goldfish, because that's all you can have in a 10 gallon tank. And when it grows larger than 3-4 inches, you're going to need a 20 gallon tank jut for the one goldy. Sorry. That's just how it is. If you want other types of fish, you will need to get a separate tank for tropicals.

Gold fish should best just be kept with other goldfish. They put of tremendous amounts of ammonia which they can tolerate but is toxic to other fish. The other consideration is that most fish tank fish are tropical and do best in water in the 70s to 80s, depending on the fish. Goldfish do best in water in the 60s, room temp.

Goldfish are coldwater fish. There are few other fish that can live with them. The very best companion for a goldfish is another goldfish of the same general type. Comets and commons would go well together, Orandas, ryukins, lion heads, and pearl scales go well together, and bubble eyes and celestials (the EXTREME varieties) go well together.

If that's between the flamboyant types (fantails, bubble eyes, and so on), then in trouble-free terms passive algae eaters/backside dwellers. The small catfish types are appropriate. If a commonplace goldfish, fish of relating to the comparable length that would swim rapidly are appropriate. Catfish are good companions for those too. beware for cichlids and gouramis/betta fish nevertheless, they are going to nip.

any fish as long as they can live in 75 degrees. if you are talking common then yeah, any fish should do fine. Don't put too big of a fish because you won't have any space left. any small tropical usual freshwater would be fine.

Your goldfish will quickly grow to fill your 10 gallon tank, I wouldn't suggest adding any more fish to that tank unless you plan to get a larger tank very, very soon.
