We always used linksys. Everyone's tellin me that Laptops should be able to find wireless networks by themselves, but nothing happened. I look and find the Network Connections page but all i see is 1394 connection and no wireless network (linksys). I tried putting in the Linksys Setup wizard CD in, but i get an error report. One of my friends said that my XP might think that my laptop is actually a computer...but i don't know. Note: I have no drivers or anything. The Staples guy said that my laptop should be able to search for wireless networks by itself, but how come nothing's working? Can someone tell me how to connect my Linksys Broadband Router to my laptop?

The drivers for your wireless card on the reformatted laptop are probably not installed. Check by right clicking on My Computer - properties (click) - hardware tab - device manager. If you see any yellow marks beside your wireless network card - the drivers are not installed.
If you have a onboard wireless card - check your laptop manufacturer's website for the drivers.
If the card has been added - check its maker's website for the drivers having the exact model number.

Your router and the laptop should both have an ethernet port. Use a cable to connect your laptop's ethernet port to the router. The wired ethernet card in your laptop will PROBABLY work if you hook it up with a cable. If so, go to the website for the maker of your laptop and download the driver for the wireless card - that's your problem.

You can also use a different computer to download the wireless driver, burn it to a CD (or copy it to a USB flash drive) and install it on the laptop that way.

Once you're able to connect to the Internet from the laptop, burn a CD with all the drivers you need and stick it away someplace safe in case you need to reload again in the future.

It is asking for DirectX 9. Do you have the original disks that came with the laptop? The network drivers should be on their. Does Windows XP recognize the network card? Go in to the device manager and see if Windows XP at least sees the NIC.

That information was slightly incorect without the instaltion disc its most likely useless!

i use a belkin wireless card 125Mb running on G not B and it would not work without instaltion when you insert the Card or wireless devise Xp will recognise this and will display it in the bottem right with a small pop up clicking on this will bring up an instaltion screen if you have the disc then insert and exit the running then instal it from the pop up that was enabled when inserting the device this then willl only install the parts needed for the device to work properlly with XP and not the rubbish that is contained within the programe!

Good Luck

P.S. if you do not have a CD to install it with you can use www.download.com to find many different programmes for all types of things just type in the name and modle you have and then free instaltion!

staples guy is stupid...

You have to find the right drivers for your integrated network adapters to be able to find wireless networks. Then install them...

most manufacturer sites (such as Dell) will give you all of the required drivers online, but you'll have to burn them, and then install them on your computer, since you can't get online with it right now....

You still need drivers for your network card in the machine it will not function without them and after you reformatted the hard drive you lost it if you do not have the driver disk that came with the machine you will need to use another computer get on line and download the drivers for your machine from the manufacturers web site.Install them and you will be good to go.

You need to search for a driver on the internet if your CD doesn't work.
