the names john, michael and stephen are family names, as is Lewis but as one of our sons and my husband is called Arran, we think it would be too much Scottish islands!

I have 2 girls under 5, Charlotte and Sophie, classic names which we felt would not date which is a consideration. It's probably wise to steer away from whats popular at the mo, although I do like Lily of whom I know a couple.
Things to consider:-
What will there initials be, will it be shortened and if so do you mind. Will people be clear on the spelling of the name. I have a friend Laurice who is always called Louise!
My choice:
Girl - Grace
Boy - not on your list but Sophie if she had been a boy would have been Harry James after my grandads.

I like all the boy names but my favorite pairing with Mackie is Stephen.
For a girl I like Layla. I love Lilly too but it has become VERY popular. Grace is quite popular too.

Lily and Grace are really sweet names, defo Grace for me!
for the boys...they're all really nice and traditional, makes a change from names you can't pronounce! My faves are David, Joshua and Michael.
I'm 8 months preggy and me and my hubby are calling ours Jasmyn Emily or Scarlett Alysia for a girl (depending on what it looks like) or
Harvey James for a boy...
I like the idea of keeping the family name in... my nan's name is Emily and my name/my great nan's name is Alice(hence Alysia). I think it's nice to name your baby in honour of your family, and it keeps the generation name going.
Good luck with the baby, hope it's healthy and you stay well.
