10 gal tank.
1 guppy left. (4 died/disappeared 3 months ago, plan to get more when store have stock)

about 6 wks ago, we bought 2 chinese algae eaters, because there were too much algae build up... within 1 wk.. 1 disappeared. I turn the tank upside down, took out the gravels, checked the filter... nothing was found. Today... my second algae eater disappeared, too! what gives?!

Do guppies eat algae eaters? Aren't guppies non-aggressive?! How/why do fish disappear? It's not the first time in our tank!

Hi there,

No guppies are not aggresive fish. What are your latest water readings, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate?

My gusses are that one of these two things are happening

1 - The fish are jumping out of the tank (check behind and all around the tank, They can jump quite far.

2 - The fish are dying and the other are eating them ( it is very possible that they can be eaten in such a short time)

Dont go to the store and get more stock (Fish),

Test you water first and remember to Quaritine all new fish so you dont intorduce new diseases to your tank,.

Good luck

~ GG

ADDITION: What exactly are your water readings if there 'fine'?

I don't know what is happening. Even with a lid, they can still jump out and go aways. I had the same problem with 2 fish i bought, they just vanished about a week ago.

WHEN WE FIRST STARTED WITH FISH WE HAD NO IDEA AND OUR FISH WERE JUMPING OU TOF THE TANK. THE WATER WAS TOO WARM, WE TOOK SAMPLES TOTHE PET STORE EVERYTHING WAS FINE, OF CORSE BY THEN THE WATER HAD COOLED . SO OUR PROBLEM CONTINUED. A FRIEND CAME OVER AND PUT A THERMOMETER ON THE GLASS AND IT WAS TOO WARM CAUSING THEM TO JUMP OUT. NEEDLESS TO SAY WE FELT LIKE TOTAL MORONS! ROFL

GOODLUCK

I agree with the first person that answered. Somehow, they are jumping out and something else is carrying them away.

sounds like they are jumping out, got any other pets that could carry them off? my cat steals my fish from the tank if it is not covered.
guppies will not eat your other fish

if you get more test them out... either put them or your guppy in a separate fish bowl and see what happens... it could very well be your guppy...
