Porsche is a German company. The family for which the company is named is Austrian, but the company is German.

Porsche and VW have had some interesting ties over the years, though they are mostly confused as being the same company in the US as Porsche was sold by VW dealers when there were no dedicated Porsche dealers. And quite recently, Porsche purchased a sizable portion of VW (who does own Audi, along with a number of other brands).

Ruf is a seperate manufacturer (certified as such by the German government). Most of Ruf's cars are made by either converting exisiting Porsche cars, or by buying unfinished cars directly from Porsche, and then using their own parts to complete the car.

Dirk Digler is talking out of his ***. The German car makes are way ahead of Italian carmakers. Even though I like Ferraris there is no way they are better than Porsches. If you research; Porsche has won more races than any other car make in the the world. The 911 alone won more races than any other car. Also, if Lamborghini is so great why is it owned by a German Co.? So, no Italian cars are not better than German cars; especially those made by Porsche.
