http://www.dailytech.com/Blogger+finds+Y2K+bug+in+NASA+Climate+Data/article8383.htm

While inspecting historical temperature graphs, Steve McIntyre, who operates the site climateaudit.org, noticed a strange discontinuity, or "jump" in many locations, all occurring around the time of January, 2000.
These graphs were created by NASA's Reto Ruedy and James Hansen (who shot to fame when he accused the administration of trying to censor his views on climate change). Hansen refused to provide McKintyre with the algorithm used to generate graph data, so McKintyre reverse-engineered it. The result appeared to be a Y2K bug in the handling of the raw data.
McKintyre notified the pair of the bug; Ruedy replied and acknowledged the problem as an "oversight" that would be fixed in the next data refresh.
NASA has now silently released corrected figures, and the changes are truly astounding. The warmest year on record is now 1934. 1921 takes third. In fact, 5 of the 10 warmest years on record now all occur before World War II.

check the NASA web site if you don't believe the "blog".
It's a fact.

I have to laugh at the "answerers" who are attacking the source (which is ultimately NASA) rather than the facts.
The fact is: the temperatures have been revised and the scientist who would not allow any other scientist to view the source data was a screaming liberal Bush-hater. He's been busted, NASA was forced to revise their data and libs hate that fact. It makes you wonder what other data needs revising.

Temperatures dropped in the 1950's and 1990's when CO2 levels were increasing.

The global warming theory is a joke. It is junk science. The Global Warming Hoax can no longer be blamed on man. All of the planets in the solar system have global warming, including Pluto which is no longer a planet. The global warming on mars mirrors the global warming on earth. (Watch this video for some of the facts: http://en.sevenload.com/videos/ha4PoKY/The-Great-Global-Warming-Swindle )

Al Gore is wrong says "The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change". The IPCC has said there will not be massive flooding like what Al Gore's movie says. They say the ocean will rise by 2 feet at most.

And new data from brand new solar satellites show that the temperature of the sun is constantly changing. Also, the strongest solar flares on record have been happening during the past decade. Because of a recently launched satellite, we now know the sun's temperature is changing constantly. http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=3067117

The man-made global warming theory has not been proven true. The IPCC only reached a "CONSENSUS" and that proves nothing. There is a lead IPCC author that disagrees with the theory. Video: http://en.sevenload.com/videos/ha4PoKY/The-Great-Global-Warming-Swindle

"The sun is heading into a new season of turbulent solar activity. Just like its seasonal hurricane predictions, on April 25, 2007, the National Oceanic and" http://www.technologynewsdaily.com/node/6852

NASA says the sun caused the earth to leave the great ice age in less than 20 years. 20 years is like a second. And there is nothing humans can do to change how the sun changes the temperature of the earth.
NASA: "Rapid changes between ice ages and warm periods (called interglacials) are recorded in the Greenland ice sheet. Occurring over ONE OR TWO DECADES, the warming of the Earth at the end of the last ice age happened much faster than the rate of change of the Earth’s orbit."

NASA data has proved that the "Little Ice Age" was caused by less light reaching the earth ("solar variability", which means changes in the sun). NASA's data about the little ice age: http://tinyurl.com/227h3p (This data can be copied and pasted it into Excel to chart it.)

Facts:
1) 6,000 years ago, the earth was hotter than it is today. 6,000 years is less than a second when compared with the age of the earth.
2) Temperatures dropped in the 1950's and 1990's when CO2 levels were increasing.
3) 140,000 years ago the earth had record CO2 levels and there were no gasoline powered cars.
4) 20,000 years ago, Canada was one big ice cube and half of the U.S. was covered with Ice. The grand canyon was formed by melting ice ages over 20 million years.
5) The temperature of the Earth has only increased by 0.65 of a degree in the last 110 years. There were faster increases in temperatures around 10,000 years ago and there were no gasoline powered cars during that time.
6) Strong hurricanes are normal. Hundreds of years ago, they used to sink ships off of the coast of Florida.

I wonder if man is really smart enough to build a computer model that takes into account all the complexities of global climate change. Now we find another flaw in the data. I guess science needs to take another look and reconsider.

The real question seems to be whether man can affect the climate or not. If we don't take steps to protect the environment, we can make a mess of it. On the other hand, too many people want to use environmentalism as a political weapon to spread their form of control over others. If we can ratioanally debate the issues and look at all the data and try to find the truth, we will know what to do. I do not think being rational is too likely into today's polarized political climate.

It is the polarized political climate that real global warming is occuring.

I believe it is real. We have experienced a record number of days of extreme heat in Idaho. Starting in June and running through July we had more days over 100 degrees than I can remember and I was born and raised here. As for man causing the whole problem I am still unsure but I have a hard time believing that we are having no impact at all on the weather patterns. Can people start using reputable sources for their info and not blogs?

I've always suspected the motivations behind global warming but believe that America would be better off energy independent from the oil barons and less polluting.

What has really tickled me in all of this is that all of a sudden the conservatives believe in science again.

So, five of the hottest years happened in the 60 years before WWII. And four of the hottest years have happened in the past 17 years. Plus the 5 year means which have all been on the plus side for the last 20 periods? And the record positive 5 year means we've been seeing?

Now, I'm no climate scientist (And neither are you, apparently), but even with these revisions, it is clear that the facts are still against you. Sorry.

If you are really interested in seeing what NASA has to say, you should go to the horse's mouth rather than to the other end of the horse

Instead of relying on the blog from which you constructed your "question" I did the unthinkable and went to the NASA website. I typed in "climate change" and guess what, the huge revelation regarding the error in global warming measurements being incorrect, isn't there.

There is no such data as is reported in the blog.

But even if the bloggers information was somehow true, what is being discussed is the methodology regarding relatively recent measurments of global temperature.

The fact that we have glacial melt at an unprecedented rate is not an artifact of a Y2K bug. Its not an artifact, it is a fact.

Blogs are like comic books, filled with fantasy.

Scientists and knowledgeable people alike agree that 95% of Al Gores documentary is accurate.I'll bet you 95% of the detractors answering this question are christian. The bible says we have dominion over the Earth. So these wack jobs think we can abuse the planet anyway we want. So by that logic I'm not going to invite christians to my house because they'll eat all my food, mess up my house, streww garbage everywhere, pee on my toilet seat and take a dump in my microwave. Also do you not think the corporate machine is not trying to throw out false info to derail the debate.

we all need to recognize that anything we do can affect the world we live in. If one report reports this and another that...short term it is rather meaningless. If we had the environment as a major priority, we would re-consider the amount of trash we produce, the amount of chemicals we dump, and the amount of raw materials we use...and simply err to the conservative to maker sure our health and our children's health was protected....without wild pristine places, clean air and water, we would lose out. I don't doubt for a second that man is changing the world...please use common sense, read the papers about species extinction, and mercury in our fish to at least choose to have some level of protection...I believe thaat global warming is real, however, I do know that the extent of it and the measures we can take to correct are ambiguous...if you aren't in the middle in regards to believing it or not, then you aren't thinking for yourself

I do not believe in global warming caused by Humans. See the Earth moves from ice age to desert age. The earth is actually overdue for a desert age. If i am not mistaken the last major desert age was when all the continents were still called Pangaea.

I believe the scientists, who are the ones who actually know what they're talking about.

The polar caps are melting; this is indisputable.

NASA is NOT the only source of relevant information.
