Look!!! You need to talk to your family!!! If you don't open some lines of communication, how in the hell do you think antidepressants are going to help? Just do it!! You need help,OBVIOUSLY and you CAN'T deal with this alone. Depression is a VERY serious thing NOT to be taken lightly. I've lost a friend because of it, and all the while, I would've gone to the ENDS OF THE EARTH to help him deal with it. He never let on that anything was wrong, his family knew absolutely NOTHING, because he kept it all to himself. Depression affects everone around you, whether you like it. or not. Please be smart about this. If you've seen a professional and have been advised to take prescription meds for it, talk to your family. You never know, strange things happen when you open up and talk honestly to people about your feelings or problems. good luck.

A counselor or a psychologist cannot legally prescribe medications to you. Please do not continue to have them believe that you are not depressed, it will cause you more harm than good. Does your counselour or psychologist believe that you are depressed? If not they are not doing their job properly. Why did you begin to see them anyway? You should allow them to know your true feelings or the problem will definitely become worse and worse. You canot get over the counter antidepressants and stay away from herbal supplements. They would do more harm. I would suggest to your therapists about the antidepressants and he/she would be able to set up an appointment for a medication consultation. It is natural not to want anyone to know. Right now you need to think about your own problems and possible needs for an antipressant. Unfortunately there is still somewhat of a stigma attached to disorders that require medical interventions. Try to get the help you need. You do not have to tell your friends or other people. I would really suggest that you share your feelings with your parents. They will more than likely care and want to help as much as you allow them to. Take care of yourself.

A Psychologist should be able to get you samples from a psychiatrist , but why not tell your family, It's not your fault you are depressed. you probably have a chemical in-balance, and you can probably helped with proper meds. I have been taking Welbutrin and Lexapro for 6 years or so. They help me to not bite peoples heads off, and other stuff. If you want e mail me if you want more info. Having depression is not as big a deal as you think, get help because Life's so much better when you can control your emotions and thoughts.

Don't be too embarrassed to let your family know. It's better to get the medication you need and deal with rather than let it get worse. I mean, your family will really know something's up if you end up needing inpatient mental health in a hospital!
There's nothing wrong with needing a little medication to help you, and it doesn't mean that you have to take it forever. I'm not ashamed to admit that I take an antidepressant....it's much better than the alternative!
