He was more than a coach - he's one of those guys who will be seen 50 years from now as a true pioneer. He popularized not only the West Coast offense, but the method of running a well-planned offensive scheme regardless of what the defense did.

Walsh was able to make the best of everyone's abilities. It didn't hurt to have guys like Montana, Craig, Lott or Rice, but he helped them to bring their best every game, and no team was better prepared. He was also the first to realize that you could score points with poor players in a good system, but that you needed true talents on defense.

I'm not a 49ers fan, but Walsh is a legend.

Bill Walsh was one of the most important people ever in football! Not only did he create and craft the West Coast offense, which has allowed the prolific careers of current players like Peyton Manning, but he also was the mind behind the San Fran dynasty, which included players like Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and Steve Young.

he redefined the game. Look at all the head coaches in the NFL that belong to the Bill Walsh coaching family tree. He also developed Joe Montana and Steve Young. He won three super bowls as a coach and indirectly help the 49ers win the other two.

That would be like asking.......

How important is Tommy Lasorda to Baseball?

How important was Bo Schem to NCAA football?

How important was Vince Lombardi?

How important was John McKay to NCAA Football?

How important was Woody Hayes?

How important was John Wooden to NCAA Basketball?

These men are legends to the games they represent. Not only did they win big, they taught future winners. They changed the way the games were/are played.

They cannot be underestimated, nor undervalued and will always be missed! (Except Lasorda who is still alive for now)
