I think its a great idea that I have pondered myself. Why wait. If you have intentions of giving it to them, and you are fixed and set up while you yourself are alive, by all means, do it-when you are gone, you're gone. Done deal. I don't want the government getting any of mine either. I want my family to have it all-if I give it to them while I'm alive-I know my wishes are fulfilled just as I wish. You and I agree.

I agree with you. We lost a family member just before Easter of this year and have had to hire a Probate Lawyer because he didn't leave a will. He has no lineal children and no wife so his two sisters should get everything, which I think is right because his two sisters paid for everything including the funeral out of their own pockets. (No I am not one of them) But even though it is a simple case, a Judge will not rule on the house and it can not be sold until the Judges rules who gets the house. So one of the sisters is paying all of the bills and mtg on a house that she does not own and the Judge will not rule without a probate lawyer being involved.

It is a mess that has been on going since he died.

You are wrong. At least in this state, unless your estate is over 1 million, there are NO taxes on the benefactors.

I don't think so. I think it is really wrong the government does that. But it is like asking for the person to die...don't you think?

It's not inheritance if they aren't dead and it's still taxable. The only way out of it is for them to spend it on you themselves.

Personally I want my parents to spend every dime they have on themselves. They deserve it.
