I don't know how much of an inheritance you can expect. But by law, your parents can give you something like $12,000 a year tax free. I'm not sure, but you may be able to get away with $24,000 a year --12k from each parent. You might want to talk to a tax professional about that. Depending on how much you can expect for your inheritance and how much your parents have to currently live on, you could propose a yearly gift (so long as it's reasonable for them) as a way to bypass all the taxes you would have to pay if it came to you as a lump sum after their death. So long as you're wise with the money, a plan like that could be mutually advantageous. I'm sure that they would like to see more of their hard-earned money go to their children, rather than the government.

Mom and Dad - I think it would be really cool if you'd give me the money now that I'd get when you die since I'd like you to live forever.

But - of course - be prepared when the laugh at you.

that would be a pretty tacky thing to do, just suffer through the hard times, you'll get the money eventually.
