I know that somestates have or are in the process of having a law that says that giftcards cannot expire would anyone know where north carolina stands in this?

I asked this in hopes of ending a debate between some family members. but as stated before i did discover their are like 15 states where experation dates and fees for inactivity arent legal but couldnt find anything for nc

North Carolina Senate Bill 1517 was just ratified (8/2/07). It's title is: "AN ACT to require the conspicuous disclosure of any maintenance fees charged for gift cards and to prohibit issuers of gift cards from charging maintenance fees for one year after the date of purchase." Basically it states that gift cards issued in NC can not have fees during the first 12 months. Bank gift cards are excluded.

yes they are legal and the store does not want you holding on to those cards forever . good luck .

Yes they are legal, they are store property and no store is required to hold money for you forever.
