You will always find what your looking for in the last place you check because once you find it, you'll stop looking. Therefor, wherever you found it was the last place you checked.

It's in the last place that you check because it's the last place that you expect something to be.

If it were in the 1st place you looked, then that would make it the last place you looked.

I can't always find what I'm looking for, I SWEAR I have Borrowers in my house. I once looked for a screw that had fallen out of something and my mum helped, we couldn't find it anywhere, then 4 days later it suddenly was in a place we had both looked. WEIRD!!!

Only when your walking forward while looking. If you walk backwards it will always be at the first place you look. Try it some time...it really works !

hmmm - story for you.
I lost my purse and looked everywhere - the kitchen, dining room, handbag, wardrobe, car, everywhere and I couldn't find it. My husband asked me where I last had it, went out to the car and found it - it had been the last place I looked and didn't find it but my husband found it in the first place he looked. Puts paid to that theory then!
