what does it mean?

In this context, it means that the person thinks you're not "hard", that you're weak, ineffectual, unable to respond to challenge appropriately.

I can also mean you're lost your fighting edge, in any context. "My teacher used to be really vigilant about spelling, but now she's gone soft; I misspell all the time."

Well it can mean just what it says...."soft being soft when you touch it....like the baby's hair is so soft.....but when you call someone "soft"...you mean they are an easy touch....easy to manipulate and put something over on them....when you say the teacher is soft....she lets you get away with things....

The first one is soft, smooth, or silky.

The second one (the teacher) means non-confrontational, easy, lacking strength or conviction.
