It's like salt. It's a necessary part of humor. However, too much completely spoils the meal. It is also very much misunderstood.
I have two relatives whom you can't engage in a normal conversation without some smartass comment that continually borders on insulting. They are so sarcastic 24/7 that they have no friends...even their kids (who are just like them) have no friends. They say everyone needs to lighten up....everyone else seems to think they need to "grow - up".
Properly executed and carefully placed sarcasm is an art...not an excuse to belittle everything one sees or hears or to be confused with insults. Too many people I have heard, they think sarcasm means putting others down...and it doesn't.

My sarcasm is my shield.
It's how I made it through labor with my boys and a lot of the other emotional and physical pains of my life.
If I can make fun of something it is far less frightening because I've made it small by doing so.

What i like out of existence, is waking up in the Morning and thamking God for granting me yet another day of existence. What I Hate is dropping my day on something that takes my entire day, and that i did no longer get to do the failings i love to do.

It's a younger persons version of clever. Yet I still find myself slipping into it's use from time to time. I used it earlier today but had second thoughts and deleted the answer.
