Its strange you know that this other person is hardly ever mentioned in our history, no telivision no films about him documentries or anything else but apparently after beating poor old Nap the French appreciated him more than we did. I know the name of man but not the storey. Anybody out there know both?

Hi Tom,

Of course your right, I had to go to the Greenwich Maritime Museum last week on business and while waiting for my colleague, on the 1st Floor open display area by the cafe' I read up on Admiral William Sydney Smith.
It went on further to say that Smith was the only other person beside Wellington to beat Napoleon on Land,
may be they meant the only other Englishmen to beat Napolean on land. do you Know anything about Admiral Smith.

he was beaten at the Battle of Aspern-Essling in 1809 by the Austrians commanded by Archduke Charles. he was also defeated at the Battle of Vyazma in 1812 by Count Mikhail Andreyevich Miloradovich's russian army and at the Battle of Leipzig in 1813 by von Blucher (also instrumental at waterloo)... so that's 3 plus Wellington and you could even argue that Blucher, not Wellington, was the real victor at waterloo since Wellington's stratergy was to hold until the Prussians arrived...

which other man were you referring to?

Smith was quite a character, unpopular with his superiors but a very distinguished navel commander. Served in many different places but his land victory was at the battle of Maida in 1805 when he attempted to help the Spanish re-capture Naples. He was never allowed to follow up on his victory though as he was recalled immediately after the battle and resumed his navel career.
He was also a diplomatic ambassador of some distinction, and he was involved in the aftermath of waterloo.
he was also a major figure in the cause of abolition of slavery.

interestingly Wellington NEVER lost a battle in his career. Though he himself felt waterloo was far from his finest hour

Well Tom C has got there before me, but even as a patriotic Englishman, I would say Blucher was the real victor at Waterloo. Even though Bonaparte had a very weakened army in 1815 (bear in mind the Grand Aimee ceased to exist after his **** up in 1812) he would probably still have defeated Wellington if it wasn't for the timely reinforcements of the Prussians. The other guy you were after, well Tom C has given a good answer there, and although many consider Boney to be the greatest general of all time, he suffered more than 2 defeats

i'm a short male. i don't be afflicted by a Napoleon complicated, under no circumstances had a situation with top and continually enjoyed jokes human beings suggested approximately my top with the aid of fact it became into continually in reliable nature. I did, although, have a "complicated" in that I longed to be bodily more desirable than i became into, and that i lifted weights since i became into 14 years previous. This helped me out in many situations and jobs in existence, so it is the only "complicated" I had. I even have met some short adult males with a "Napoleon" complicated, yet maximum human beings who're short, many times have reliable attitudes. that is slightly a stereotype, actually. Are all Asian adult males over aggressive with jobs and practise? Are all black adult males thugs and occasional-lifes?
