"When the Dems lost the mid-term elections in 2002, they just went berserk. They became the "opposition party", as opposed to the "loyal opposition party".

what scares the Democrats is the calculus of their failure since 1968--ie, pulling out of Vietnam. They have had two Presidents--Carter and Clinton for a total of 12 years in the White House. Republicans have had five presidents--Nixon,
Ford, Reagan, Bush I and Bush II for a total of 26 years, so far.

The three front-running Democratic candidates for president are deeply invested in the United States losing in Iraq.
dems now control both houses of Congress have a vested interest in victory for Al Qaeda. that is a scary and sobering reality.

In an interview with the Washington Post, Democratic Whip James Clyburn has finally admitted what we all should have realized: The worst nightmare of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid would be victory for the United States in Iraq."

"Although measurements of progress in any nation-building effort can never be reduced to purely quantitative data, a comprehensive compilation of such information can provide a clearer picture and contribute to a healthier and better informed debate."

That's why they are so hell-bent on us losing in Iraq. Any victory for the USA is a defeat for them, and they know it.

Two thoughts.

First, the dems victory in Congress hangs by a thread. It is not the 60 plus percent that would embolden them to actually do what needs to be done, which is impeach Cheney, then Bush, then begin the necessary prosecutions that will create the impression to future mini-despots that it is not good to try to undermine the constitution.

Second off. Your rotten little exercise in Iraq is not a war in our national interest. It is a corporate driven maneuver designed to stabilize the wealth of international oil interests in the Middle East. There is no victory being planned for by Cheney. The idea is to remain their and keep the region destabilized.

If I am wrong, then in one cogent paragraph: define the scenario you would call victory that would allow us to bring our troops home. Please use your edit/add details if you would like to tell us what you mean when you say victory.

The "loyal" opposition party is a myth, because it implies that the two parties respect one another. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

All of the sensible people have left the party to the left wing liberal loonies.
